Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal located amidst the folds of the verdant Pali hills is one of the most popular serene hill stations in India, which mesmerises any visitor. With her wooded slopes, mighty rocks, enhancing waterfalls and a beautiful lake, Kodaikanal is a charming hill station.Kodai is situated at an altitude of about 2,133-m high and covers an area of 21.45-sq-km. The hill town is renowned for its educational institutions of international repute. The pride of Kodaikanal is the 'Kurinji-flower', which blossoms once in 12 years. The hill-plantain fruits and plums are known for their freshness and taste.

Berijam Lake

Berijam Lake is one of the beautiful picnic spots in Kodai, located 21-km away from the bus stand. This lake supplies drinking water to Periakalam town. The scenery around here is delightful.Berijam Lake is a reservoir near Kodaikanal town in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, South India. It is at the old site of "Fort Hamilton", in the upper Palani hills. [1] The lake, created by a dam with sluice outlets, is part of a micro–watershed development project. Periyakulam town, 18.7 kilometres (11.6 mi) to the SE, gets its public drinking water from the lake. The lake’s water quality is excellent.

Boat Club

In 1910, a new boathouse was constructed, but only from May 1929, few tourists were permitted to avail boat ride as temporary members. Later on they were extended to the public and tourists in 1932. Boats like T.T.D.C, Kodai boats, Carlton boats are available for hire.

Bryant Park

Bryant Park situated on the eastern side of the lake, is noted for flowers, hybrids and rafts. Varieties of flowers can be seen in a glasshouse. The annual horticultural show is held here in May.This park is well maintained and close to Kodai lake. You can club the boating with viewing the park together. The park has lots of flowers when we went and you would really enjoy the scene of the blossomed flowers. A good place to relax in the evening after hard days of site seeing in Kodaikanal.

Shenbaganur Museum

Shenbaganur Museum is located about 5-Km from the lake. The Sacred Heart College maintains this museum. One of the best orchidoriums in the country with more than 300 species of orchids and wide-ranging collection of birds are found here.

Coaker's Walk

Coaker's Walk derives the name from Lt. Coaker, who prepared the map of Kodai and it is about a kilometre from the lake, which runs along a steep slope on the southern side of the Kodai. Some of the best views of the plains can be seen from here.Assuming it’s not cloaked in opaque mist, the valley views along paved Coaker’s Walk are superb.

There’s no plastic allowed on the pathway, a rule flagrantly flaunted by locals, and a small observatory with telescope at the southern end. Start near Greenlands Youth Hostel or Villa Retreat – where stained glass in the nearby Church of South India (CSI) is stunning in the morning light – and the stroll takes all of five minutes. The 5km lake circuit is pleasant in the early morning when you can count the kingfishers before the tourist traffic starts.

Kodaikanal Lake

Kodaikanal Lake is a magnificent man-made lake, which spreads out in a star shape over sixty acres is a main attraction as it is set among the greenery. The boat club here offers several pleasure and racing trips.Over the years a boat club, boathouse and boat service (with rowing boats and pedalling boats and a public ferry) for the public and tourists has become fully functional and is of aesthetic significance for tourism. Boat Pageant and Flower Shows are a regular feature in the summer season which attracts tourists.

Pillar Rocks

Within the city limits one can see three boulders standing shoulder - to - shoulder vertically measuring to a height of about 122 metres providing a panoramic view.Pillar Rocks in Kodaikanal is a set of three huge rock pillars (5.0 mi) away from the Kodaikanal Bus Station, 8 Km Far from the famous Kodaikanal Lake & at a height of 400 feet from the ground. Pillar Rocks also awarded as the top 25 mountains in India. It is one of the most popular places to visit in kodaikanal with family. Viewpoint from the top is excellent. Travellers get relax in the mini garden area next to the Pillar Rocks.

Kurinji Andavar Temple

The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Murugan and is about 3.2-km from the lake. In Tamil literature "Kurinji" means "Hilly Region" and "Andavar" means God. From this temple, one can get a view of the northern plains and Palani Hills.Located approximately 3 km away from Kodaikanal Lake, Kurinji Andavar Temple is one of Kodaikanal's most revered places of worship. Built under the patronisation of Leelavathi Ramanathan in the year 1936, this temple is dedicated to the 'God of the Hills'- Lord Muruga.

The beautiful surroundings, characterised by undulating forest-covered terrains, exude immense natural beauty. From the temple site, you can behold undisturbed views of the Palani Valley and Vaigai Dam.

Silver Cascade

Silver Cascade waterfall is located on the Ghat Road about 8-km from Kodaikanal. The overflow of Kodai Lake comes down here as 180 feet high falls.It’s on the way to kodai, a worth place for a group Pic. It’s the overflow water from the kodaikanal lake, so around the year this falls won’t be dry. Better don’t try to play with the water from this falls, its believed to be contaminated with mercury pollution.

Bear Shola Falls

An ideal picnic spot located 1.6-km from the lake, which can be by a picturesque, rugged hill path. Bears once used to drink water above the fallsSituated around 3 km away from the Kodaikanal Bus Stand, Bear Shola Falls is a seasonal waterfall that comes to its full size during the monsoons. It lies at a distance of just 2 km from the star attraction of the hill station- Kodaikanal Lake.
