Chunnambar (7-km)

Like to Swim, row a boat, or simply watch the sunrise and picnic at the beach, or go trekking, or feel comfortable on a tree house?If you are craving for a weekend getaway to a seaside paradise, you don't have to go as far as the Bahamas. Just past Pondicherry, you'll find what you are looking for.It’s hard to miss the sign – “Boat House – Chunnambar” – accompanied by a pedal boat that has long been out of use. Once we park, buy tickets and get our bags checked, we take a 15-minute ride on a motorboat to what looks like a deserted beach. When you turn the bend, the view takes our breath away.

Mahabalipuram (98-km)

Located at a distance of 98-km from Pondicherry, Mahabalipuram has everything that makes a site memorable; tradition, history, piety, western annals, and current importance as a centre of tourism.Mahabalipuram was the earlier name of Mamallapuram because the demon king Mahabali was killed by Lord Vishnu. The name was changed later by the king of Pallava Narashima Varman who has got the title of Mamalla; the great wrestler.

Karaikal (132-km)

On the coastal Bay of Bengal close to Tanjore of Tamil Nadu is Karaikal - earlier it was part of the Tanjore district.Karaikal is known all over the country for its unique and the only temple devoted to the Lord Saneeswara (Lord Saturn) at Thirunallar. Karaikal is the Gateway to various places of worship in the eastern coast of Tamil Nadu. Two famous shrines, Velankanni for Christians and Nagore for Muslims are nearby Karaikal. The French flavor still persists in the peaceful land of Karaikal.

Kancheepuram (130-km)

Kanchipuram is a small, rural town about 130-km from Pondicherry in the state of Tamil Nadu. With the Sankara Mutt acting as the hub of Hindu activities and the temples, Kanchipuram is one of the most highly visited pilgrimage spots in India.
